Our Stories
1. Hi, my name is Robin…
My name is Robin, and I was a DRW participant in 1999. I started in Sept. with
DRW and took advantage of all of the courses that were offered. Boundaries, Holiday
Support, Next Step and any others that were offered. The courses helped me transition
from married life to being single again. I would encourage you to do the same. Wow,
what a great support system for such a traumatic time in my life. I helped facilitate
a small group in the DRW in 2000. In 2001 I started to coordinate the DRW retreat,
and have been helping in that capacity ever since. I have two adult children, and
work for Bank of America. I look forward to seeing you soon.
2. Hi, my name is Keith…
Hi, my name is Keith. I'm one of the facilitators at the Divorce Recovery Workshop
(DRW) and I am really glad that you are considering joining us. DRW was extremely
beneficial to me when I was a participant in 2005. I am so thankful for those who
were there for me when I was struggling. And that is precisely why I choose to be
a facilitator. I want to be able to help others find hope and healing. I am looking
forward to meeting you. Some more info about me: I was married for 12 years and
have been divorced since 2006. I have 3 kids and our house is the neighborhood hangout.
There is no shortage of scooters, balls, stuffed animals, bike ramps, dolls or nerf
guns around here. We frequently have extra "gang members" sitting at the
dinner table or stuffed in the van as we head to the park or church activities.
I am a civil engineer by profession and in my free time I enjoy attending outdoor
festivals or getting active with volleyball, hiking or biking.
3. Hi, my name is Kim…
Hi, my name is Kim. I attended the Divorce Recovery Workshop in 2001 about a
year into my separation. After 8 ½ years of marriage and with a one year old child,
I felt like such a failure and so alone. I was determined that my daughter would
not live in a house filled with bitterness – I knew I needed to work through
this with people that understood my pain. It was comforting to be heard and to listen
to others share their stories. I was so relieved to know my feelings were typical
and eventually to see that I could laugh and enjoy life again even AFTER divorce.
The DRW provided a tremendous support system when I needed it the most. And more
recently many of those same people helped me pull through and move on after a health
crisis. Volunteering has offered me the opportunity to give back to a program that
had such a positive impact on my life. I’m the proud parent of a first grader;
I like traveling and spending time outside – when it’s warm.
4. Hi, my name is Liz…
My name is Liz. I am a former teacher and currently am a Senior Customer Service
Agent working in a county government office. I have 3 grown children and an adorable
granddaughter. I enjoy gardening, dancing, going to concerts, going to the beach,
and have many other interests as well. I am a member of a local writer’s club
and am secretary of a small woman’s club and a member of a local Presbyterian
church.
I decided to help with the First Baptist Divorce Recovery Workshop
because I had taken it 2 and ½ times and it was such an invaluable help and experience
for me in getting through that very rough time and beyond. I now want to help others
to receive that wonderful help too!
5. Hi, my name is Dee Dee…
My name is Dee Dee and I came through the DRW program in 2004, about a year after
coming out of a 10-year relationship. He and I didn't marry, so mine wasn't a divorce,
so a little bit of a different situation, but the same things to work through. I
met so many wonderful people through the program, and have found the fellowship
and friendships to be one of the best parts of the workshop. I also attended other
sessions that were offered, such as Boundaries, Safe People, Holiday Support, etc.
I've been volunteering with the program since 2005 and recommend it so highly to
anyone experiencing a break-up. It's the best thing you can do for yourself - to
actively work on healing and getting your life back on track.
6. Hi, my name is James…
Hi, my name is James. We had four wonderful yet confused children who watched
as their parents struggled through a rocky 19 year great/difficult marriage that
ended badly in 2003. Although I felt like it, I knew I wasn't the only one to weather
the pain of this "unnatural" disaster called divorce. I felt overwhelmed
and angry at all that was lost - spouse, family, home, finances, dreams for the
future, etc. I knew I could use some support & education, so I searched the
web to find some "expert" input into this new and unfamiliar experience
with divorce and found this workshop at FBC. I attended in 2004 as a participant,
and have helped out as a volunteer these past two years, because I'm still learning &
growing, and I appreciate all that was given to me during my time of crisis - an
understanding ear, a class on boundaries, a place to be safe & accepted as a
tender divorcee. I hope you also take advantage of this opportunity to learn, share
and heal as you go through one life's most difficult experiences.
